The Gambibigo Community Senior High School (SHS) in the Bolgatanga East District is expected to be transformed into a boarding school within the next two years, following government approval for major infrastructure projects.

Speaking on A1 Radio, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugri Aka-Eri, disclosed that the projects—though yet to be awarded for construction—have been approved and will significantly address the school’s infrastructural challenges.

According to him, the facilities will include two single-storey dormitory blocks for boys and girls, a 2,500-capacity dining hall with an adjoining kitchen, and three two-unit, two-bedroom semi-detached staff bungalows. In addition, a two-storey science laboratory block, fully equipped with modern facilities, will also be constructed.

“With this, we are on a good footing to solve some of the problems in the school. Gambibigo, I can say, will be part of the boarding schools in two years’ time,” the DCE stated.

He recalled that earlier discussions with the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East and the Attorney General emphasized the need to introduce boarding facilities to make teaching and learning more convenient. He further noted that the development will help resolve pressing challenges, including the lack of bathing facilities for students, particularly girls.

Mr. Aka-Eri expressed his delight that the approvals have finally come through, assuring parents and the community that the transformation will not only enhance academic performance but also improve the welfare of students.

The Gambibigo SHS upgrade, he emphasized, forms part of broader efforts to expand access to quality education in the Bolgatanga East District.
