Teachers in the Bolgatanga South Local of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) marked this year’s World Teachers’ Day with a series of sporting and recreational activities aimed at promoting unity, relaxation, and teamwork among members.

Although the global celebration was officially observed on Sunday, October 5, 2025, the local association shifted its activities to Monday to allow for full participation. The day featured games such as football, volleyball, oware, ludo, and cards, giving teachers an opportunity to unwind and strengthen bonds outside the classroom.

“As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. We have been teaching all this while, so if we use one day for physical exercise for teachers, it’s a good thing,” said Barnabas Ayelgasa, Bolgatanga South Local Chairman of GNAT, in an interview on A1 Radio’s News Link.

Mr. Ayelgasa emphasized that such activities promote healthy living and help prevent certain ailments. He expressed appreciation to teachers in Bolgatanga South for their active participation and commitment, which made the event a memorable one.

World Teachers’ Day is dedicated to celebrating the vital role educators play in shaping young minds, inspiring future generations, and fostering inclusive and equitable societies. This year’s global theme, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” highlights the importance of cooperation, peer learning, and shared responsibility in strengthening the teaching profession and improving educational outcomes.
