A1 Radio’s David Azure has been named the Agriculture Journalist of the Year at the 2024 Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, recognizing his outstanding contribution to promoting agricultural reporting and development-focused journalism in the region.
Azure, who has spent years amplifying the voices of farmers and agricultural stakeholders through his popular radio programs, described the award as a reflection of persistence, collaboration, and a shared passion for the country’s agricultural growth.
“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of highlighting the importance of agriculture in our region and nation as a whole,” Azure said after receiving the honor. “I am proud to be part of a community of journalists who are passionate about telling the story of Ghana’s agricultural sector and its impact on our economy and livelihoods.”
He expressed gratitude to those who have contributed to his journey, noting that their insights and cooperation have shaped his understanding of the agricultural landscape. “I would like to extend my appreciation to farmers, agricultural experts, and policymakers who have shared their insights and experiences with me over the years,” he said. “As host of an agriculture show, your contributions have been invaluable in shaping my understanding of the sector and informing my reporting.”
Azure emphasized that the recognition would serve as motivation to push even further. “This award motivates me to continue doing more to promote agricultural journalism in the region and beyond,” he said. “I pledge to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and accuracy in my reporting, ensuring that the stories of our farmers, agricultural innovators, and policymakers are told with integrity and impact.”
He also expressed readiness to collaborate with the GJA and other development partners to strengthen agricultural reporting. “Once again, I am grateful for this recognition, and I look forward to continuing to do more and work with the GJA and other stakeholders to promote agricultural journalism and development in our region and beyond,” Azure said.
David Azure’s recognition adds to A1 Radio’s remarkable performance at this year’s awards, where the Bolgatanga-based station reaffirmed its dominance in the region’s media landscape. His work continues to spotlight agriculture as a vital pillar of Ghana’s economy and a source of resilience for communities across the Upper East Region.
