A benevolent group known as Friends of Prosper has donated GH¢60,000 to support Beatrice Dadzie, a mother of two, who is battling a life-threatening brain tumor. The donation is to help Beatrice undergo an urgent surgery estimated to cost over GH¢150,000.
According to medical experts, the tumor, located in her head, has already caused severe pain and loss of vision in her left eye, and if not treated promptly, could result in complete blindness, brain damage, or even death. Speaking during the presentation, David Akolbila, a member of Friends of Prosper, said the gesture was part of the group’s broader mission to touch lives and support people in need, especially within the Bolgatanga Municipality and the Upper East Region at large.
“Friends of Prosper is a group of friends who came together for a purpose — to help others. Prosper has always been a philanthropist, someone who gives even from childhood. We are here to support him in continuing that spirit of giving,” Mr. Akolbila said.
Friends of Prosper is a group of young people who are advocating for Prosper Ayinbilla Awuni, a native of Tindonmolgo who works at the Ministry of Finance, to contest the Bolgatanga parliamentary primaries of the NDC when the party opens nominations. He explained that although Beatrice and Prosper share an old school connection, the donation was not solicited by her or her family. The group acted after seeing an appeal for support circulating on social media.
“Beatrice is Prosper’s senior back in Anglican School, and her brother was his mate. They hadn’t even reached out formally, but Prosper saw the flyer and felt touched. That’s why Friends of Prosper came together to make this donation. It’s not from Prosper alone — it’s a collective contribution from all of us,” he added.
Mr. Akolbila further stated that Friends of Prosper intends to continue embarking on humanitarian projects across the Bolgatanga Municipality as part of what he described as their ‘agenda to touch every life.’
“The MP cannot do everything alone. We are not here for comparison or politics. We are here to help, as people who want to see everyone in our municipality live in good health and good faith,” he emphasized.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Dadzie family, Humul Khrusim Tahiru expressed deep gratitude to Friends of Prosper for their timely intervention.
“On behalf of the Dadzie family, we want to say a very big thank you to our brother Prosper and Friends of Prosper. This support has come at a time we needed it the most. Beatrice needs this surgery as urgent as yesterday,” she said emotionally.
Ms. Tahiru revealed that Beatrice is currently in Accra, undergoing further medical assessments after doctors in Tamale advised that the surgery could not be fully carried out there.
“The doctors in Tamale said the surgery is in two folds and that the initial GH¢150,000 may not even be enough. There’s also a need for radiotherapy after surgery, which will come with additional cost. So while this donation is a great help, Beatrice still needs more support to undergo the full treatment,” she explained.
She appealed to individuals, groups, and organizations to continue supporting Beatrice to enable her to undergo the lifesaving procedure and cater for her two young daughters.
“We’ve written to many people, and some haven’t even acknowledged receipt. Prosper didn’t wait to be written to; he just acted. We are truly grateful. But we are still appealing to the public — Beatrice still needs help,” she added.
