Police in the Upper East Region have launched an investigation into a deadly shooting incident in Garu that left four people dead and five others injured.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, October 20, 2025, took place near the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office in Garu Township. According to a statement from the Upper East Regional Police Command, four unidentified gunmen riding two motorbikes opened fire on several people before fleeing the scene.
Police said the assailants also fired indiscriminately, resulting in multiple casualties. “Some spent cartridges were retrieved from the scene for forensic examination,” the statement noted.
The bodies of the deceased have been released to their families for burial, while the injured victims are receiving medical treatment. Authorities say efforts are underway to track down and arrest the perpetrators.
The statement, signed by Chief Inspector Abdul Rahman Sumaila of the Public Affairs Unit of the Upper East Regional Police Command, assured the public that the police are committed to bringing the attackers to justice.
