The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kassena-Nankana, Hon. Faustina Akeyom Abulu, has responded to a recent report by A1 Radio that highlighted the collapse of the Manyoro–Gumongo bridge — a situation that has left residents cut off from the municipal capital and neighboring communities.
The MCE noted that steps are already underway to address the long-standing infrastructural challenge. The collapsed bridge continues to pose a major risk to commuters and health workers in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality. The recent A1 Radio report shed light on the struggles of pregnant women, schoolchildren, and traders who are forced to wade through deep waters to reach markets and hospitals in Navrongo.
“I’m aware of it. I’ve been going to the regional ministers, complaining about that bridge. It’s a headache for all of us. We want to fix it so that our people will have good access to those communities. We have been following up — that’s why it was given to a contractor. We’ve been making calls and trying our best to see how far we can go in fixing it. It’s a challenge, but we will try our best,” she said.
She revealed that a team from the Department of Feeder Roads and the Municipal Works Department has already conducted an assessment and submitted a structural report to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
“Someone from the Regional Feeder Roads Department came and made an assessment. We are trying our best to see how far we can fix it, and I will make a follow-up,” she added.
The Manyoro–Gumongo road connects more than 16 communities to Navrongo and serves as a key route for transporting farm produce to major markets. The current situation has disrupted movement and economic activities, particularly after the death of a pregnant woman earlier this year when access to the War Memorial Hospital was delayed due to the collapsed bridge.
