The Women’s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency, Hajia Jami Abuba, has strongly criticized former Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, over recent comments she made against former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Naa Torshie Addo, in a media interview, accused the former Vice President of failing to intervene in the release of Common Fund allocations from the Ministry of Finance to the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies. Her comments followed earlier allegations by some Greater Accra Regional Executives of the NPP, who accused her of frustrating the government’s work and contributing to the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Responding to those accusations, Naa Torshie Addo stated:
“The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, and Bawumia refused to release the common funds to me. Every fund approved by Parliament was disbursed according to the laid-down formula.”
She later went on to criticize the former Vice President for the depreciation of the cedi, insisting that:
“Akufo-Addo brought Bawumia to rescue the dollar, but after eight years, the dollar was worse. Where are the men?”
These statements have angered many supporters of Dr. Bawumia, particularly in his home constituency – Walewale. Hajia Jami Abuba, the Women’s Organizer of the NPP in the Walewale Constituency in a sharp rebuttal, urged Naa Torshie Addo to focus on promoting her preferred candidate rather than launching attacks that could further divide the party.
“Naa Torshie Addo should rather concentrate on marketing her candidate and stop the smear campaign because the party needs unity to reorganize and return to power in 2028,” she said.
She also clarified that Dr. Bawumia had no direct responsibility over the release of Common Funds.
“It is important to note that Dr. Bawumia was not the Finance Minister, neither was the District Assemblies Common Fund under the office of the Vice President.”
Calling for unity among NPP women across the country, Hajia Jami emphasized the need for collective support for a leader capable of rallying the party ahead of the 2028 elections.
“We, the women in the party, are looking forward to a leader who will unite and support the welfare of women and lead us to victory in 2028. Let’s ensure the party emerges from this election united and ready to recapture power.”
Hajia Jami Abuba and her team of women groups have intensified their engagements in the Walewale Constituency, campaigning actively for the return of Dr. Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer, arguing that he deserves a second attempt at the presidency.
