The Chief Executive Officer of Charger Man Limited, Emmanuel Bortey Borketey, has launched a pilot sanitation initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste across the company’s operational areas, particularly in northern Ghana.

The project, inspired by the government’s broader sanitation agenda, encourages consumers to return used plastic sachets in exchange for rewards—an incentive-driven approach designed to promote discipline in waste disposal.

Mr. Bortey Borketey, whose company produces the popular “Happy Man” beverage line, including Happy Man Bitters and Onaapo Atadwe Ginger, said the pilot will run from December through March.

“We want to run promotions on a pilot basis for December, January, February and March, dubbed Return the Sachet and Win,” he said. “Clients or direct consumers would return a set quantity of empty 50ml sachets after consuming Happy Man Bitters to claim a reward. We encourage our patrons to keep their empty sachets from now on as we prepare to announce collection outlets.”

The campaign is expected to reduce plastic waste generated from beverage sachets while motivating consumers to adopt better waste management habits.

Charger Man Limited believes the incentive system will boost public participation in sanitation efforts and complement national campaigns for a cleaner environment.

Under the Charger Limited Group, Mr. Bortey Borketey oversees a diversified business portfolio, including Happy Man Beverages; Charger Transport, a haulage company specialising in sand and stone; and iStore GH, a retail and repair hub for Apple products and accessories.

Once fully rolled out, the sanitation initiative is expected to serve as a model for private-sector-led waste management interventions nationwide.
