Pupils of Damolgo Junior High School in the Nabdam District have spoken about the difficulties they endured over the past three years while sharing a single classroom with younger primary school learners.

They said the situation affected their concentration, academic performance, and overall learning experience.

Speaking during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a modern three-unit classroom block for the school, three female Form Three pupils—14-year-old Daboat Isabella, 15-year-old Zong Deborah, and 16-year-old Zebre Charity—recounted how the constant noise and movement of their juniors disrupted lessons.

They described the experience as “frustrating,” noting that the environment made it difficult to focus during teaching and learning activities.

According to the pupils, the lack of dedicated classrooms for JHS learners forced them to adapt to an environment that was neither conducive nor appropriate for their level of study.

They shared this with A1 Radio when the Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. Mark-Kurt Nawaane, led the sod-cutting for the construction of the new classroom block, which will include a toilet.

Dr. Nawaane said the project would be funded through the District Common Fund and assured the school and community that construction would be completed within six months to restore conducive learning conditions and boost academic performance.

Headteacher Joshua Dok-Dong revealed that the school currently has a student population of 38, a figure he described as worrying. He attributed the low enrollment partly to the absence of proper classroom infrastructure, which discourages parents from enrolling their children.

Both teachers and pupils expressed gratitude to the MP and pledged their commitment to improving academic outcomes once the new classroom block is completed and ready for use.
