The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo, Joseph Abaa Akaseke, has urged residents to take extra precautions, including avoiding riding through communities late at night, as the District Security Council (DISEC) works to address a surge in motorbike thefts and armed robberies across the district.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East show, Mr. Akaseke said his office had received reports of multiple motorbike thefts, a situation that demands urgent attention.

“You know this is a festive season, and during this time young men often go out late at night. We have heard of several cases of motorbike snatching in the Bongo area, and it is unfortunate that yesterday we recorded yet another incident. We will arrange a DISEC meeting within the week to assess the situation and work with the police to enhance patrolling and ensure peace in the district,” he said.

The comments came after a man, believed to be in his 30s, was shot five times in Zorko-Gamboringo, a community within the Bongo area. Residents and the DCE reported that the victim was attacked sometime after dawn, struggled with the assailants, and was shot. While his motorbike was missing from the scene, the keys were recovered.

Mr. Akaseke said the police recovered the body, sent it to Bongo District Hospital, and later released it to the family for burial.
