The Chief of Bolga Sherigu, Naba Aluman Apasinaba II, has called for accelerated development in the Sherigu zone, which comprises six sub-communities.
Speaking at this year’s Naba Yesika Festival, the chief highlighted pressing needs, including the extension of electricity to underserved areas, improvements to the community secondary school, and the construction of a polyclinic to serve the area’s growing population.
Represented at the festival by the Chief of Dorongo, Naba Akazire Afayure, Naba Aluman Apasinaba II expressed gratitude for government efforts addressing some local challenges, including awarding a contract for the secondary school. He, however, appealed for further support in infrastructure development, healthcare services, and economic opportunities.
The chief also urged the creation of a separate constituency, Bolga West, to foster democracy and development in the area. He called for an IT and communication center to support youth, and a new dam to boost irrigation farming.
“We are in the digital and AI era, yet my community is without an IT and communication center for the teaming unemployed youth to learn, explore available opportunities, and unearth their God-given talents,” he said.
Sherigu currently has one dam, which is in disrepair. The chief stressed that an additional dam is needed to support small-scale farmers and appealed to the government to complete the area’s only major road to stimulate local economic activity.
