The Irrigation Company of Upper Region (ICOUR) Ltd. has celebrated the hard work and dedication of three exceptional irrigation farmers as part of activities marking the 41st National Farmers’ Day.
At the ceremony held within the Kassena Nankana Municipality, ICOUR honoured winners in three key categories for their commitment to sustainable and productive irrigation farming. Mr. Daniel Atigsi emerged as Best Male Irrigation Farmer, Madam Janet Atimoliga was adjudged Best Female Irrigation Farmer, while Mr. Daniel Alagatitire took home the award for Best Youth Irrigation Farmer.
The awardees received a comprehensive package designed to enhance their agricultural productivity. The items included 10 bags of organic fertiliser, 5 bags of chemical fertiliser, an electronic knapsack sprayer, Wellington boots, assorted farm chemicals, cutlasses, nose masks, hand gloves, a citation, and a certificate of honour.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of ICOUR, Mr. Dominic Anarigidi, highlighted the purpose of the initiative, stating that it seeks to “recognise the sacrifice and contributions of irrigation farmers to food security, job creation, and improved livelihoods.” He noted that the awards also aim to inspire farmers to intensify their efforts in support of the government’s “Feed Ghana” agenda.
This year’s ICOUR awards formed part of a broader municipal celebration during which the Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly honoured an additional 30 farmers excelling in various agricultural fields.
The joint recognition underscored the vital role farmers, particularly those engaged in irrigation, play in sustaining year-round crop production, strengthening food systems, and driving local economic development.
