Navrongo Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspirant for the constituency Chairmanship position, Moses Amoah, has launched a strong criticism against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), calling for the dismissal of its leadership over what he describes as “no work done” since its establishment.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Amoah expressed disappointment in the performance of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, insisting that the office has lost focus and become preoccupied with what he termed as “the office versus Ken Ofori-Atta” instead of tackling broader corruption issues.
According to him, the OSP was established by President Nana Akufo-Addo to strengthen Ghana’s fight against corruption, but the current leadership has failed to live up to that mandate.
“Corruption-related matters in the public space are why this office was created. It was a fantastic idea by Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP. But since Kissi Agyebeng came into office, tell me one person he has successfully prosecuted,” he questioned.
“Recovering money is good, but prosecution is what deters people from looting state resources.”
Mr. Amoah argued that despite significant annual budget allocations to the OSP, there has been little to show in terms of successful prosecutions. He added that while he supports the creation of more anti-corruption institutions, effectiveness—not numbers—is what matters.
He further lamented that numerous petitions submitted to the OSP have not resulted in meaningful legal action.
“What we want is an independent office that prosecutes corrupt officials—regardless of which party is in power. That is all Ghanaians want,” he stressed.
He concluded with a firm call for the dismissal of the current Special Prosecutor:
“If John Mahama fires him today, I will be the happiest. The office needs seriousness, not press conferences about Ken Ofori-Atta.”
