The Assembly Member for the Soe Sanabisi Electoral Area in the Bongo District, Akaribo Philip Awane, says his tenure has been marked by “relentless lobbying, advocacy and community mobilization,” leading to major improvements in education, health, sanitation, water access and local infrastructure.
Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tingmaalgo Sanga on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, Mr. Awane outlined what he called “real, measurable progress” driven by strong collaboration between residents and the district assembly.
According to him, more than 100 young people in the area have benefited from job creation and skills-training initiatives. Empowering the youth, he said, remains central to his development agenda. “When you give the youth skills, you secure the future of the community,” he said.
Road upgrades form a significant part of his achievements. Mr. Awane said several roads within Soe Sanabisi have been reshaped to ease movement and support economic activity. “Transportation is now smoother, and residents are beginning to feel the change,” he added.
In education, he announced that plans are underway to provide furniture for Kabre Primary School through a youth-led community initiative. He also supplied roofing sheets to support completion of a kitchen at Soe Primary B. “Our children deserve a decent environment to learn and to eat,” he said.
He thanked the youth of the Akulyom community for helping secure additional school furniture, noting that he and the unit committee contributed GH¢7,000 to the effort.
On health, Mr. Awane highlighted a community-driven fundraising effort led by the Chief of Soe, elders and opinion leaders to support the local CHPS compound. The funds were used to fix the facility’s door, service a delivery bed, acquire chairs and detergents, support security personnel and repair a broken mechanized borehole.
“This is what community ownership looks like,” he said. “When we come together, we can fix our own problems.”
Awane also commended the government for its newly implemented Okada business initiative but urged policymakers to insulate it from political interference. “The authorities must ensure this policy runs smoothly without disrupting the livelihoods of Ghanaian youth,” he cautioned.
He ended with an appeal to government agencies, NGOs and development partners to support ongoing efforts to uplift Soe. “We have done our best with the little we have. With more support, we can transform Bongo Soe entirely,” he said.
