The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Talensi District, John Millim Nabwomya, has outlined deliberate efforts by the Assembly to improve infrastructure at the Talensi District Hospital to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery for residents.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Nabwomya disclosed that resources from the District Assemblies Common Fund and Internally Generated Funds (IGF) are being strategically invested to upgrade the hospital from its old and limited structures into a modern healthcare facility.

According to the DCE, the Assembly has already completed several projects within the hospital enclave using IGF. Prominent among them is a newly constructed 20-bed capacity ward, which is ready for commissioning. However, he explained that the official opening has been delayed due to electricity challenges.

“I’m taking that one to my IGF. So far, we’ve used our IGF to build some of the incomplete structures. There’s a 20-bed capacity ward I’m about to commission, but what is holding me is electricity,” he stated.

Mr. Nabwomya revealed that the transformer meant to power the facility was initially mounted on faulty poles, a situation that has since been corrected. He added that once the final electrical installations are completed, the ward—already furnished with brand-new hospital beds—will be commissioned for use.

In addition, the DCE announced the construction of a new pharmacy block, which is currently at the roofing stage. He noted that these developments signal a gradual transition from the old hospital structures to the new site.

Looking ahead, Mr. Nabwomya disclosed that architectural designs have been completed for a new Outpatient Department (OPD) block. He said he is actively engaging stakeholders and potential partners to secure funding for the project.

“I have the design in my hand, knocking on doors to see how we can get support,” he said, adding that the long-term plan is to relocate fully to the new hospital site and repurpose the old facility as a district health centre.
