The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Roland Ayoo Atanga, has pledged to implement measures aimed at increasing revenue generation to support the municipality’s development. Mr. Ayoo acknowledged that while the assembly has performed well in mobilizing revenue, there is still room for improvement.
“We are not doing badly in terms of revenue mobilization, but it’s not the best,” he said. “We need to tighten up a lot of things and do more to rake in more revenue, especially in internally generated funds.”
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayoo identified unpermitted structures in Bolgatanga as a significant source of revenue loss and announced the formation of a revenue task force to address the issue. He also plans to link businesses to banks, enabling them to pay fees and charges through a quote system, enhancing transparency and accountability.
The MCE cited the abattoir at Yorongo, where a new transformer has been installed to address power fluctuations, boosting operations. He emphasized eliminating the human element in revenue collection, saying, “If we are able to know the number of stores in town, we can link them to a bank, and the bank can send an alert as to whether you are owing or not.”
Mr. Ayoo believes that by implementing these measures, the assembly can increase revenue, improve budgeting, and plan effectively. “If we are able to rake in a lot of revenue, we can then begin using what we rake to carry out certain projects,” he said.
