The Bolgatanga Bawku Navrongo (BBN) Cooperative has reported a strong performance at its annual general assembly, achieving total revenue of GHC 1,694,856.01 for the audit period of July 2024 to June 2025.
Formed in July 2021 with support from the Canadian Government, the cooperative has made significant strides in promoting the economic interests of its members and expanding services. Its market now spans private basic schools across the Upper East, North East, Northern, and Upper West regions, supported by the World Food Programme (WFP).
General Manager Priscilla Aberinga Alemiya highlighted the cooperative’s achievements, including a Rice Fortification training program with Indian expertise, and the sale of over 5,000 bags of 25kg parboiled unpolished and fortified rice to schools.
“We have also won contracts from the Ghana Commodity Exchange (GCX) and the National Food Buffer Stock Company and have supplied 2,811 bags of 50kg awaiting payment,” she stated.
The cooperative’s theme for 2026, “Building BBN Cooperative Together,” focuses on growth through digital channels, operational resilience, and establishing cooperative rice farms to support processing facilities.
Board Chairperson Gilberta Akuka emphasized the cooperative’s commitment to unity, holistic development, and environmental sustainability, citing the use of improved stoves for rice parboiling.
BBN has also received support from partners including GIZ, WFP, MOFA, and the Department of Cooperatives, and implemented projects such as rice fortification and farm business management skills training for women.
General Manager Alemiya pledged her full dedication to leading the cooperative with integrity, transparency, and a focus on collective success. Board Chairperson Akuka thanked members, partners, and stakeholders for their ongoing support.
The District Chief Executive for Bongo, Joseph Akasake Abaah, commended BBN for its contribution to local economic development and pledged the assembly’s readiness to support the cooperative.
