The Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South has pledged to ensure that the Buli language is formally integrated into Ghana’s educational curriculum.
Speaking at the climax of the 2025 FEOK Festival, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak assured traditional authorities and residents that his commitment to the inclusion of Buli in the national curriculum would form a lasting part of his legacy.
“I’ll leave a legacy behind to remember me as the one who got the Buli language into the educational curriculum,” he declared, underscoring the cultural and educational importance of preserving indigenous languages.
Dr. Apaak emphasized that language is central to culture, identity, and cognitive development. He noted that while several Ghanaian languages are already taught and examined at various levels within the Ghana Education Service (GES), Buli has yet to be fully integrated into the curriculum.
The proposed inclusion of Buli in schools is viewed as a major step toward empowering local communities and enriching students’ learning experiences. According to the Deputy Minister, the initiative will not only benefit the Builsa people but also support Ghana’s broader goal of promoting multilingual education.
“This initiative is not just about preserving culture; it is about improving literacy and learning outcomes,” Dr. Apaak said. “Children learn best in the language they understand. By anchoring education in Buli, we are not turning back—we are building forward on the bedrock of who we are.”
He further pledged to work toward securing employment for all qualified Builsa teachers, describing it as a necessary step to address the teacher deficit in the area.
