Residents of Gambibigo and surrounding communities in the Bolgatanga East Constituency have received renewed hope after the Member of Parliament, Dr. Dominic Ayine, assured them that plans to rehabilitate the long-abandoned Gambibigo Bridge are far advanced.
The bridge, if completed, would serve as a critical link for residents.
The project was awarded in January 2022 to a Lebanese firm, Hatoum Construction Limited, under the previous government. However, it was later abandoned due to funding challenges, leaving commuters, traders and farmers exposed to safety risks and restricted access, particularly during the rainy season.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Dr. Ayine, who also serves as Attorney General and Minister for Justice, said engagements with the Ministry of Roads are progressing steadily to ensure the project is revived and completed.
He assured residents that the bridge remains a priority and emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing long-standing infrastructure deficits in the constituency.
Beyond the bridge project, Dr. Ayine highlighted other key developmental initiatives underway, including the completion of a modern community library in the area. He said the facility is expected to be commissioned by the end of the first quarter of the year, around March.
“I came with my children from Accra and took them to tour the library to see what their father is trying to do to help his hometown,” he said.
According to Dr. Ayine, the library, which will serve learners from kindergarten to tertiary level, requires about GH¢1.4 million to procure books, based on recommendations from a professional consultant.
Plans are also underway to equip the facility with computers and establish a board of trustees made up of respected community members and library management experts. A trust fund will be created to sustain operations, pay staff and manage overhead costs.
Additionally, the MP announced that a modern sports facility in the community is nearing completion. The project includes seating for about 350 spectators, a VIP section, changing rooms for players, a media room and floodlights powered by a dedicated generator to support night matches.
Dr. Ayine expressed optimism that the sports facility would be completed by the end of the month, reinforcing his broader vision of advancing education, sports development and infrastructure growth in Bolgatanga East.
