The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Mr. Daniel Dung Mahama, has disclosed that he is in the process of converting his 14-room building, originally intended to serve as a hotel, into a College of Education to serve the Talensi area.

Speaking to Seidu Mutawakil on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East show, Mr. Mahama explained that the decision became necessary after preliminary research indicated a decline in school enrolment in the area.

He noted that establishing a College of Education would help train more teachers, increase the number of teachers in the district, and ultimately improve enrolment and educational outcomes.

According to the MP, a preliminary inspection has already been conducted by relevant stakeholders, who recommended the construction of additional infrastructure to meet the required standards for a training institution.

“I had a place—a 14-room hotel—which I am trying to convert into a training college, and the process is underway. When they first came to assess it, they asked that I should build some classrooms,” he said.

He added, “I have since gone ahead to construct five classrooms, provided washroom facilities, and fenced the entire place.”

Mr. Mahama explained that his commitment to the project is driven by the need to improve educational standards in the Talensi area.

“School enrolment in Talensi is not good. I believe this is largely due to the inadequacy of teachers. This has contributed to falling standards at the lower primary level. If we have a training college, it can help improve the situation,” he stated.
