The Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa, has challenged the Upper East Regional Minister, Akamugri Atanga, to use his upcoming press soiree to account for tangible development outcomes rather than what he described as repeated rhetoric and unfulfilled promises.
Speaking on A1 Radio ahead of the Regional Minister’s press engagement scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Mr. Ayinbisa said the NPP and many Ghanaians expect the Minister and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to move away from what he termed “flowery adjectives and vague phrases” such as “we will cut sod,” “soon we will build,” and “projects are underway.”
According to Mr. Ayinbisa, after more than a year in office, the government can no longer rely on promises or future projections. He questioned how long the administration intends to delay the commencement and completion of concrete projects, particularly in the Upper East Region.
“For how many years will they want to take to start hitting the ground running?” he asked.
The NPP communicator further referenced campaign statements attributed to President John Dramani Mahama, in which he reportedly indicated that his administration would require a one-year “honeymoon” period. Mr. Ayinbisa argued that this period has elapsed, yet visible development remains lacking.
“One year and counting, I have yet to see a concrete project that this government has completed, especially in the Upper East Region,” he stated.
He maintained that the upcoming press soiree presents an opportunity for the Regional Minister to be candid with residents of the Region. According to him, the public expects a factual update on completed projects, rather than announcements of intentions or future plans.
In his view, if the government has failed to deliver on its promises, it should acknowledge its shortcomings.
“I will expect the Minister and the NDC to use their press soiree to update the listening public that indeed they are incompetent and apologize to Ghanaians for the lack of work done,” he said.
