A communications aide to presidential hopeful Dr. Bryan Acheampong says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) must prioritize unity and grassroots empowerment if it hopes to return to power in the 2028 general elections.

Raphael Kpinn, Assistant Communications Officer for the Dr. Acheampong campaign team in the Upper East Region, told A1 Radio that Saturday’s January 31, 2026 NPP presidential primaries represent more than a leadership contest.

“This is not merely an opportunity to choose a leader,” he said. “It is a referendum on the new direction of the New Patriotic Party — whether we want to stay on our old course or chart a new path.”

Kpinn argued that Dr. Acheampong stands out among the five candidates as the figure most capable of uniting the party after the primaries. According to him, internal cohesion will be critical as the NPP prepares for the 2028 elections.

“Unity is the key for the NPP going into 2028,” he said. “If you cannot bring everybody together and rally all candidates and their supporters behind one agenda, then you are not fit for purpose.”

He described Dr. Acheampong as a grassroots-oriented leader committed to empowering party structures at the local level.

“He is in this to give the party back to the grassroots, empower them, and position them properly to do the work at the local level,” Kpinn said.

The campaign aide further maintained that Dr. Acheampong has demonstrated the ability to engage all factions within the party, both publicly and behind the scenes, describing his approach as “real and practical unity.”

NPP delegates vote Saturday to choose a flagbearer who will lead the party into the 2028 national elections.
