The Upper East Regional Campaign Coordinator for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s 2028 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership bid, Yaw Mort, has expressed strong confidence in the former Assin Central MP’s chances, describing him as the party’s “best bet” to reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking in an interview during a brief ceremony in Bolgatanga on Dec. 21, 2025, Mort announced the presentation of 15 motorbikes to constituency campaign coordinators across the Upper East Region to strengthen grassroots mobilisation.

“Today, we had the opportunity to present 15 motorbikes to our constituency campaign coordinators across the Upper East Region to enhance their movement and outreach,” Mort said. “It has been a very productive meeting, and the morale among the coordinators is extremely high.”

According to him, the donation was made at the request of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to support effective campaign operations, particularly in remote communities.

“Honourable Kennedy asked that we provide these motorbikes to help our coordinators reach the grassroots effectively. Upper East is one of the regions he is keenly focused on to significantly improve his vote share,” he added.

Mort, who previously supported Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the 2024 NPP primaries, said the party’s heavy defeat in the 2024 general elections required a strategic rethink.

“In 2024, I openly declared my support for Dr. Bawumia here at Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga. Unfortunately, the performance was not good, and we lost the elections badly. We cannot afford a repeat in 2028,” he said.

He stressed that the 2028 race must focus on winning power, not merely electing a flagbearer.

“This time, it is not just about choosing a candidate. We want power. If we want a president in 2029, then Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is the man. But if we only want a flagbearer, then that’s a different matter. For me, I want a president, and I want the NPP back in power,” he said.

Touching on feedback from the grassroots, Mort said the response had been overwhelmingly positive, particularly among polling station executives and party members.

“The grassroots are calling. They are eager for change. Many suffered during the past eight years. People were made to pay before they could get jobs. Kennedy has promised to abolish all such practices. No one will buy a job when he becomes president,” he said.

He added that Agyapong’s vision of job creation and equal opportunity resonated strongly with supporters.

“Ken is determined to create opportunities and ensure fairness. No online gimmicks, no bribery for jobs. He is committed to transparency and inclusiveness,” Mort said.

In a final appeal, he urged NPP delegates to rally behind Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the party’s internal elections scheduled for Jan. 31.

“My simple message is this: on Jan. 31, all NPP delegates should rally behind Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong so that together, we can win the 2028 elections and bring the NPP back to power,” he said.
