A young man believed to be in his late 30s has been shot dead in the Sherigu Forest in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, sparking fear and speculation among residents. His lifeless body was found in the early hours of Saturday, 31 January 2026.
The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, but sources say the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds. His lifeless body was discovered deep in the forest, prompting a report to the police.
To ensure their mission was completed, large stones were found at the exact spot where the body lay, an act eyewitnesses believe suggests the assailants pelted stones at him after shooting him to confirm he was dead.
The victim’s motorbike and mobile phones were found intact at the scene, ruling out robbery and strengthening suspicions that the incident was a targeted killing.
Police personnel later conveyed the body to the Upper East Regional Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, as investigations continue to establish the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
Residents of Sherigu have expressed shock over the incident, calling for swift police action to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of security in the area.
