The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Daniel Dung Mahama, has provided financial support for mock examinations for 1,652 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates from both public and private junior high schools in the district, as part of efforts to improve educational outcomes.

According to the MP, the mock exams are designed to help teachers and pupils identify learning gaps and implement remedial measures to improve performance ahead of the BECE scheduled for April this year.

“The mock exam is important to me, and good performance of students is significant,” he said.

Talensi District Education Director Christiana Ayinzoya praised the MP for supporting education in the district. She joined him in visiting schools to observe the mock exams being written by the 1,652 candidates preparing for the 2025–26 BECE.

She said the exercise also helps familiarize students with printed examination materials, noting that many schools primarily rely on blackboards for teaching. The director highlighted improvements in district performance, which rose from 26% in 2022 to 48% last year, with a target of 50% this year.

Ayinzoya urged parents to support their children by providing learning materials and time to study. “They shouldn’t overload children with household chores,” she said.

The district hopes to organize a second mock examination with support from the District Assembly and the Member of Parliament.
