A five-member committee has been constituted to investigate allegations of procurement breaches leveled against the Vice-Chancellor of Bolgatanga Technical University, Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa.

The committee was inaugurated on Friday, 13th February 2026, at the Sumbrungu campus of the university, following a directive from the Ministry of Education. The directive came after the ministry received briefings and petitions raising concerns about procurement practices at the university.

Briefing the media after the inauguration, the Chairman of the Governing Council of BTU, Dr. Bishop Akolgo, said the council held an emergency meeting to comply with the minister’s instruction.

According to him, the committee is chaired by Dr. Aaron Anafure Issa and has been given 21 days to investigate the allegations and submit its report.

Dr. Akolgo explained that the issues under investigation include the alleged disbursement of more than 27 million cedis in the procurement of computers, furniture, projectors and other items, as well as claims relating to the disposal of university assets without due process.

He said the committee’s mandate includes examining who initiated the procurement requests, how funds were sourced, who determined the needs of the university, and how contractors were selected. The committee is also expected to probe the decision to use sole sourcing, identify who selected the supplier, and assess whether there are any risks of money laundering linked to the transactions.

Dr. Akolgo noted that the Vice-Chancellor, as the Principal Spending Officer of the university, falls within the scope of the investigation, adding that the extent of responsibility of any other officials will be determined once the committee reviews the relevant records.

He said Professor Alnaa has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. The Governing Council, he added, will take a decision and advise the Minister of Education after the committee submits its findings, depending on whether the Vice-Chancellor is exonerated or found culpable.

Other members of the committee are Fawzia Yakubu Abagnama, Dr. George A. Dordah, Prof. Oswald Atiiga and Lawyer Maxwell Agbambila.
