The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has called on managers of private health facilities in the region to strengthen supervision in order to curb unprofessional conduct among some staff.

Speaking at the end-of-year dinner of the Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) in Bolgatanga, the minister acknowledged the vital role private healthcare providers play in supporting the region’s health system, especially in underserved communities. However, he expressed concern about reports of certain practices that undermine public confidence in private healthcare delivery.

According to him, issues such as negative attitudes toward patients, professional negligence, extortion, and other infractions by some health workers continue to worry the public and risk damaging the reputation of private facilities in the region.

Mr. Atanga therefore urged managers and administrators of private health institutions to take a more active role in supervising their staff, ensuring strict adherence to professional standards and ethical conduct.

He also encouraged facility managers to work closely with the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) to enforce professional codes of conduct and strengthen continuous professional development, particularly in ethics and client relations.

The Regional Minister commended private health providers for their contribution to healthcare delivery in the Upper East Region, noting that their services continue to complement public health facilities and expand access to quality healthcare for residents.

He assured them of government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the private health sector to improve health outcomes across the region.
