The Irrigation Company of Upper Regions (ICOUR) Ltd., in collaboration with the DRIP Secretariat, has begun rehabilitation works on a key access road within the Tono Irrigation Scheme to improve transportation of farm produce.

The works include road maintenance, spot improvement, reshaping and grading of the main link road from Bundunia to Precas. According to ICOUR, the road is critical to operations within the scheme, as most farm produce is transported through that stretch to Navrongo and other parts of the country.

The company said the rehabilitation will significantly improve access to farms and help reduce post-harvest losses within the scheme.

Meanwhile, ICOUR has also intensified efforts to improve rice production by training farmers and introducing seed cleaning machines. Under the Ghana Rice Improvement Project, implemented in partnership with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), farmers are being equipped with modern techniques to increase yields. The introduction of seed cleaning machines is expected to improve seed quality and productivity while reducing the need for farmers to travel long distances for seed processing.
