The Assemblyman for Bongo Soe Awuuka-Bisi Electoral Area, Apangaboya Ateo, has called on the government to remain focused on development projects, stressing the need for electricity, water, educational infrastructure, and improved health services in the district.
Speaking during the 69th Independence Day celebration in Bongo Soe, the first time the community has hosted the event since 1957, Mr. Apangaboya expressed gratitude to God and thanked the chiefs, queen mothers, assembly members, teachers, market women, hairdressers, dressmakers, and all residents who contributed to the occasion.
“The celebration is a joyful moment for our people, but it also reminds us that Bongo Soe still lacks critical development, such as electricity, potable water, proper educational facilities, and adequate health services. Students continue to study under trees with no light at night,” he said.
Mr. Apangaboya urged the government, the regional minister, and the Assembly to prioritize projects that will benefit the next generation. “We must stay focused on development and avoid social vices that could derail the future of our youth,” he added.
Abraham Akataba, the officer-in-charge of the Bongo Soe Health Center, also used the occasion to advise residents to adopt preventive measures against meningitis as the dry season sets in. Speaking to journalists after the parade, he emphasized the importance of vigilance from November to April, a period marked by festivals and large gatherings. “Residents should watch for early signs and symptoms of meningitis and report immediately to the nearest health facility,” he said.
Philip Akaribo Awuane, Assembly Member for Sanabisi/Kabre Electoral Area, part of Bongo Soe, reflected on the historical significance of Independence Day. “This is a day to remember our forefathers and heroes who fought to free us from colonial rule. While we celebrate freedom, we must acknowledge the development gaps that still exist in our communities,” he said. He appealed to the government to prioritize healthcare, education, and electricity, noting that a strong economy would allow communities to mobilize resources for further development.
The Hairdressers’ Association, led by Madam Linda Anaba, also expressed gratitude for the independence celebrations and called on young people to avoid drugs that could negatively affect their future.
The 69th Independence Day parade in Bongo Soe, held under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” brought together students, teachers, community leaders, and residents in a reflection on both national achievements and the ongoing need for local development.
