For many Muslims, Ramadan is a sacred period marked by spiritual reflection, self-discipline, prayer and acts of charity. For Charity Rahinatu Haruna Iddris, however, the season goes beyond personal devotion to embracing the spirit of sharing, unity and support for others.

In line with this tradition, the former Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has donated food items to Muslim communities in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency in the Upper East Region.

The items included 200 bags of rice, 100 bags of sugar and 100 boxes of cooking oil, aimed at supporting Muslims during the fasting period.

According to Ms. Iddris, the donation forms part of her routine efforts during Ramadan to share with the less privileged and strengthen communal bonds among Muslims.

She said the gesture also provides an opportunity to seek Allah’s peace, protection and blessings for families and communities across the country during the holy month.

Madam Gifty Nyaaba led the donation on her behalf and reiterated Ms. Iddris’ commitment to supporting communities, particularly during important religious periods.

Beyond the food support, Ms. Iddris also used the occasion to encourage women to remain active advocates for the welfare of their families and communities.

She urged mothers to prioritize their children’s education, stressing that education remains the most reliable pathway to building the Ghana citizens aspire to see.

“Women must continue to champion the cause of education for their children because education is the key to building a better future for our communities and the nation,” the message conveyed during the event noted.

The donation benefited several groups within the constituency, including the office of the Chief Imam, the Deputy Chief Imam, members of the NDC youth wing and the wider Muslim community.

As part of the distribution, the Upper East Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Yussif Imam Umar, received 10 bags of rice (each containing five 25-kilogram bags), five bags of sugar and 25 litres of cooking oil.

The Regional Deputy Chief Imam received five bags of rice, two bags of sugar and three boxes of Frytol cooking oil, with each box containing 12 bottles of 1.5-litre oil.

The NDC youth wing in the constituency also received 43 bags of rice, each containing five 25-kilogram bags, along with five boxes of cooking oil.

Receiving the items, Sheikh Yussif Imam Umar expressed gratitude to Hajia Charity for what he described as a generous and timely gesture.

He said the donation reflects the spirit of compassion and unity that Ramadan represents.

The Chief Imam also offered prayers for long life, prosperity and Allah’s protection and guidance for Hajia Charity Rahinatu Haruna Iddris, commending her continued support for Muslim communities.

Community members described the donation as a blessing, noting that it provided relief during the fasting period while strengthening bonds of solidarity and togetherness in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency.
