The Assembly Member for the Bongo Anafobiisi Electoral Area, Hannah Talata Asanyuure, has called for increased investment in women’s leadership and participation in local governance.
Asanyuure, who also serves as the Upper East Regional Women’s Coordinator of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), made the call during the Upper East Region’s International Women’s Day celebration held under the theme “Give to Gain.”
The event brought together women leaders to recognize their contributions to local governance while promoting mentorship, collaboration, and leadership development.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the national NALAG leadership, Asanyuure emphasized that empowering women is essential for sustainable community development. She said the theme highlights the importance of commitment, sacrifice, and support in advancing gender equality.
“When we give opportunities to women and girls, we gain stronger communities. When we create space for women’s voices in governance, we achieve better and more inclusive decision-making,” she said.
She also encouraged young women aspiring to leadership to remain confident and persistent.
“Believe in yourself and know who you are. If you stop, you are not helping the other young women who look up to you,” she added.
Asanyuure reiterated the need for deliberate efforts to support women’s participation in governance, noting that inclusive leadership is key to national development.
