Avram Grant Names Black Stars Squad for AFCON 2017

The players to represent Ghana at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon have been named.
At a press conference at the headquarters of the country’s football governing body, Ghana Football Association, on Monday, head coach Avram Grant named a 26-man squad with three to be dropped before the tournament, which begins Saturday, January 14. Conspicuously missing is Fatawu Dauda, who made his Africa Cup debut as part of the 2008 squad. Grant’s squad:
Goalkeepers: Razak Braimah (Cordoba CF, Spain), Adam Larsen Kwarasey (Rosenborg, Norway) and Richard Ofori (Wa All Stars)
Defenders: Harrison Afful (Columbus Crew, USA), Andy Yiadom (Barnsley, England), Baba Abdul Rahman (Schalke 04, Germany), Frank Acheampong (Anderlecht, Belgium), John Boye (Sivasspor, Turkey), Jonathan Mensah (Anzhi, Russia), Daniel Amartey (Leicester City, England) and Edwin Gyimah (Orlando Pirates, South Africa)
Midfielders: Emmanuel Agyemang Badu (Udinese, Italy), Afriyie Acquah (Torino, Italy), Thomas Partey (Atletico Madrid, Spain), Mubarak Wakaso (Panathinaikos, Greece), Ebenezer Ofori (AIK Fotball, Sweden), Christian Atsu (Newcastle, England), Samuel Tetteh (Liefering, Austria), Joseph Larweh Attamah (Istanbul Basaksehir, Turkey) and Andre Dede Ayew (West Ham United, England)
Strikers: Asamoah Gyan (Al-Ahli, UAE), Jordan Ayew (Aston Villa, England), Abdul Majeed Waris (Lorient, France), Ebenezer Assifuah (FC Sion, Switzerland), Bernard Tekpetey (Schalke 04, Germany) and Raphael Dwamena (FC Austria Lustenau, Austria)
The Black Stars, who have been in a non-residential training camp since Wednesday, December 28, will depart to Dubai for a pre-tournament preparations. The team will be in Dubai for 13 days and will travel to Gabon on January 13.
Ghana kick-starts their campaign in Group D on Tuesday, January 17 at Stade de Port-Gentil with the Cranes of Uganda, a side the Stars have not beaten in a competitive fixture since September, 2005.
