The Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa, has called on politicians to exercise restraint in their public statements, especially during campaign periods.

Speaking on A1 Radio, he noted that recent developments in the country highlight the long-term consequences of statements made in the heat of political campaigns. According to him, some assertions made in the past are now resurfacing and having unintended effects on current governance and public perception.

“It is getting interesting this time around—interesting because of the kind of things happening in our country. I just hope we will be able to overcome some of these issues and admit that in the past, we might have said certain things that are now beginning to take a toll on us,” he said.

He stressed the need for political actors to be mindful of the language they use on campaign platforms, particularly when addressing enthusiastic supporters.

“As politicians, we need to be very careful with the kind of words we use on political platforms, and the kind of statements we make when we are at the peak of campaigns or when we have enthusiastic crowds cheering us on. We need to be a little more careful,” he added.

He explained that statements made under such circumstances can shape public expectations and later become points of criticism when similar situations arise under different administrations.

“I am saying this because some things in the past were described as mismanagement. Today, similar things are happening, and nobody wants to accept that it is mismanagement,” he noted.

“From where I sit, I will not describe it as mismanagement as others did,” he added. While acknowledging that concerns about governance often attract political debate, he indicated that not all current challenges should necessarily be described in the same terms as previous ones, suggesting a more measured approach to political commentary.

Mr. Ayinbisa further expressed hope that political leaders would reflect on past communication strategies and adopt more responsible messaging moving forward to strengthen public trust and national cohesion.
