Araco Construction Company Limited has been awarded a temporary contract to undertake emergency works on the Bolgatanga–Bawku road, focusing on the Kulaa section.
The intervention is aimed at improving deteriorating road conditions and ensuring safer and smoother travel for commuters and transporters along the corridor.
Officials say the temporary contract will allow for immediate repairs while awaiting the return of the original contractor to site.
The project was initiated by the District Chief Executive for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-eri, in collaboration with Dominic Ayine, as part of efforts to address growing safety concerns on the road.
Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Atanga Akamugre, described the condition of the road as dangerous, noting that it has led to several injuries.
“The place is becoming dangerous; it has caused injuries to people, so it is important for us to take action to curb the situation,” he said.
He explained that Araco Construction has been engaged to make the road motorable and reduce accidents.
“We have been able to engage Araco Construction Company Limited to work on the road to make it motorable and reduce incidents to save lives while we wait for the original contractor to return to site,” he added.
The minister said the arrangement is temporary, pending the resumption of work by the original contractor, Galvao Construction Company Limited, which was awarded the contract in 2018 and began work in 2019 before stalling.
Mr. Akamugre dismissed claims that the intervention was prompted by threats of a demonstration by a group calling itself Concerned Youth of Bolgatanga East over the poor state of the road.
He maintained that the decision was based on safety concerns and the need to protect lives.
The Bolgatanga–Bawku road is a key route in the Upper East Region, linking major towns and supporting trade and movement within the area.
