The Assembly Member for the Achan-Yeri Electoral Area in the Builsa North Municipality, Stephen Ayaagutika, has announced plans to formally petition the Overlord of the Builsa Traditional Area, Nab Azagsuk Azantilow, as well as the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, over what he describes as “false and damaging” remarks made by a woman in a viral TikTok video.

The controversy stems from claims by a woman on social media, who alleged in the video that marriage rites in Builsa communities, particularly in Sandema, Wiaga, and Fumbisi, require little more than cola nuts and dogs, suggesting that women are “given out freely” to men.

Reacting strongly to the assertions, Mr. Ayaagutika said the comments are not only inaccurate but also deeply offensive to the customs and traditions of the Builsa people. He emphasized that such statements risk misrepresenting the cultural values of the area to a wider audience.

According to him, the petition will seek to have the woman summoned before traditional authorities to substantiate her claims or publicly retract them. He insisted that the dignity of the Builsa Traditional Area must be protected against misinformation.

“This claim is completely false and has tarnished the image of our people. We cannot allow such statements to go unchallenged,” he said.

Hon. Ayaagutika further called on the public to disregard the viral comments, stressing that Builsa marriage rites are guided by well-established customs that uphold respect, family values, and tradition.
