The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly disbursed more than GH¢3.1 million to 1,128 beneficiary households under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme over the past year, Municipal Chief Executive Roland Atanga Ayoo has said.
Presenting an account of his first year in office at a stakeholder session in Bolgatanga, Mr. Ayoo said the payments formed part of the Assembly’s social protection efforts to support vulnerable households. He added that additional funds were also allocated to persons with disabilities to support livelihoods and organisational needs.
The MCE said the Assembly made progress across several sectors despite financial constraints and delays in fund releases.
On revenue mobilisation, he disclosed that the Assembly generated GH¢2.46 million in Internally Generated Funds (IGF) in 2025, representing 75.11 percent of its annual target, a slight increase from the previous year. He noted that inflows from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and donor partners supported development projects, although disbursements were often delayed.
In infrastructure, the Assembly undertook road rehabilitation, drainage construction, and development of public facilities, including schools, markets, and health centres. Projects such as classroom blocks, CHPS compounds, and boreholes are at various stages of completion in communities including Sumbrungu, Yorogo, and Nyariga.
In education, the Assembly distributed more than 1,200 dual desks and over 11,800 textbooks to basic schools. More than 600 teachers also received training in curriculum delivery, while 450 BECE candidates were supported with learning materials.
On health, Mr. Ayoo said some CHPS compounds have been completed and furnished, while others are under construction or awaiting handover to the Ghana Health Service. He added that public health campaigns have improved awareness of maternal health and disease prevention.
The Assembly also supported agriculture and local economic development. According to the MCE, over 800 farmer groups, involving nearly 20,000 farmers, have been registered under the Feed Ghana Programme. Women in agro-processing have received equipment support, while 170 artisans are expected to benefit from apprenticeship tools.
Sanitation efforts included 11 major clean-up exercises and the evacuation of refuse to the final disposal site at Sherigu. Public education campaigns and routine inspections have also been intensified.
Mr. Ayoo said the municipality continues to enjoy relative peace, attributing it to collaboration with security agencies and community engagement.
He, however, cited challenges including limited financial resources, rapid urban growth, and climate-related pressures.
Despite these, he said the Assembly remains committed to improving revenue mobilisation, strengthening partnerships, and pursuing sustainable development.
Mr. Ayoo called on residents and stakeholders to support the Assembly’s development agenda, stressing that progress depends on collective effort.
