Residents of Lungu in the Bongo District gathered on May 1, 2026, to mark the second edition of “Lungu Day,” an annual community event aimed at mobilizing support for local development projects.

Held at the Catholic Social Centre, the event brought together community members, leaders, and guests to promote self-help initiatives and address key development needs.

This year’s celebration focused on raising funds to acquire a mini transport vehicle for the community clinic to support emergency cases and referrals. The target was not achieved during the maiden edition in 2025, but organizers say efforts have been renewed.

The initiative is led by Assembly Member Joseph Ayamga in collaboration with the chief, elders, and youth groups.

Member of Parliament for Bongo, Charles Bawa Duah, donated GH¢5,000 to support the project and commended the community’s efforts.

He urged other communities in the district to adopt similar approaches to development.

The event featured cultural performances by women’s groups, alongside music and other activities.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Ayamga said the initiative would continue as a platform to address community challenges. “Lungu Day is here to stay, and we will keep working together to tackle our development needs,” he said. Residents, including those living outside the community, contributed to support the initiative.
