Media Response, a Ghana-based media development and advocacy organization, has trained journalists, bloggers, and communication officers in the Upper East Region on migration reporting and digital content creation.
The training workshop, held on Wednesday, brought together about 100 media practitioners from various media houses across the region to strengthen their capacity in ethical migration reporting, fact-checking, storytelling, and the use of digital tools for online journalism.
The initiative forms part of a project launched this year by Media Response to promote the free movement of people and responsible migration reporting within the West African sub-region. The project seeks to equip media practitioners to report accurate, ethical, and balanced stories on migration and related development issues.
Facilitators at the workshop highlighted the role of the media in shaping public understanding of migration, especially among young people who often travel outside the country in search of better opportunities under difficult circumstances.
Participants were taken through practical sessions on mobile journalism, video blogging, social media storytelling, photography, video editing, and audience engagement strategies. Trainers encouraged journalists to embrace digital trends to remain relevant in the rapidly evolving media landscape.
The workshop also focused on responsible reporting, combating misinformation, and producing balanced stories that highlight both the challenges and opportunities associated with migration.
Organizers said equipping journalists with accurate information and digital skills would improve public education and promote informed discussions on migration and development in Ghana and across West Africa.
Some participants expressed appreciation to Media Response for the initiative, describing the training as timely and useful in enhancing their professional skills and improving the quality of reporting in the region.
The training forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen media professionalism and promote responsible journalism in Ghana.
