YEFL-Ghana has presented a citation to A1 Radio in recognition of the station’s contribution to the implementation of the CLEAR Project, an initiative aimed at improving access to quality basic education in deprived communities.
The citation was presented to the General Manager of A1 Radio and Bolga FM, Ebo Bruce Quansah, on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The CLEAR Project, which stands for Citizen-Led Action for Educational Accountability and Responsiveness in Ghana, is being implemented by a consortium comprising the Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA), School for Life and YEFL-Ghana.
Speaking during the presentation, Project Officer at YEFL-Ghana, Samiratu Dawood, said the project seeks to improve equitable access to quality basic education in deprived communities while promoting accountability and transparency in education delivery.
According to her, the project is being implemented in six districts: Talensi, East Mamprusi, Nanumba North, Tatale, North East Gonja and Wa West.
“Generally, the project seeks to contribute to equitable access to quality basic education for children in deprived communities. It is also focused on strengthening accountability and transparency in the delivery of basic education,” she explained.
Ms. Dawood said YEFL-Ghana’s role under the project is to empower young people to actively participate in advocacy efforts aimed at improving education delivery.
“For YEFL, we mobilise young people into safe spaces and networks where they can contribute meaningfully to advocacy around access to quality basic education,” she stated.
She noted that Community Journalists and Girls’ Caucus groups under the project have used radio discussions and social media advocacy to highlight challenges in the education sector and engage duty bearers on issues affecting schools and learners.
Ms. Dawood commended A1 Radio for providing a platform for young people in Talensi to amplify their voices on education-related issues.
“Talensi did not have a radio station, so the young people travelled to A1 Radio to participate in discussions because we recognised radio as a strategic tool for amplifying their voices and engaging stakeholders,” she said.
She added that the project had contributed to increased community awareness, greater parental involvement in education, improvements in school infrastructure, support for teachers and stronger youth-led advocacy.
“We have seen improvements in community participation in education delivery, and young people have become more confident and informed in engaging stakeholders on educational issues,” she added.
Ms. Dawood further disclosed that although the CLEAR Project is nearing completion, YEFL-Ghana is exploring ways to sustain its gains through continued collaboration with partner radio stations.
“We still see the need to sustain the gains of the project, especially through the radio stations that supported advocacy efforts across the implementing districts,” she noted.
Receiving the citation on behalf of the station, Ebo Bruce Quansah expressed gratitude to YEFL-Ghana and its partners for recognising A1 Radio’s role in promoting educational accountability and youth participation.
He reaffirmed the station’s commitment to supporting development-oriented initiatives and providing a platform for young people to engage in meaningful discussions on issues affecting their communities.
Mr. Quansah also indicated that A1 Radio would continue to collaborate with organisations championing education and social development to sustain the impact achieved under the CLEAR Project.
The citation described A1 Radio as a valuable partner whose dedication and commitment significantly contributed to advancing access to quality basic education in the Talensi District.
