The Kassena-Nankana West District Chief Executive, Stephen Aeke Akurugo, has cautioned final-year students of Sirigu Integrated Senior High School against plans to cause mayhem after their WASSCE papers, stressing that security will be on high alert.

The warning was issued during the launch of the school’s 25th anniversary celebration under the theme: “25 Years of Inclusive Education: Building a Resilient Community through Stakeholder Partnership,” scheduled for November 28, 2026.

Addressing students, staff, and stakeholders, the DCE said he had received intelligence that some third-year students were planning to cause disturbances at the end of their exams.

“There is something I want to say here. I am aware of issues of insecurity. When I came into office, we had to come here and resolve a case. But I am reliably informed that students of Sirigu Senior High, especially the third-year students, want to cause mayhem at the end of their exams,” Mr. Akurugo said.

As Chairman of the District Security Council (DISEC), he warned that he would not allow any act that tarnishes the school’s reputation.

“The school is the property of the community. You have only come here to do one basic thing: study your books, pass your exams, and go home.

“If you want to cause mayhem and give this school a bad name, I will not sit as DISEC chairman and allow that,” he stressed.

The DCE added that security patrols will be deployed to monitor students during and after the examinations.

“We have seen on social media students fighting teachers.

“It is not the best, and I don’t want students of Sirigu Senior High School to engage in that. This is a serious caution to the third year.”

Headmaster of the school, John Ayimbila Nyaaba, speaking to the media on the issue, confirmed the DCE’s intelligence, saying he had been alerted by a security officer about plans for post-exam disturbances.

“I had a call from a security officer that there is big information that students are planning mayhem after they finish their papers. So I can confirm it, because what happened in Bongo SHS could have happened here,” Mr. Nyaaba said.

The Silver Jubilee will be used to reflect on 25 years of the school’s contribution to inclusive education and to mobilize resources for infrastructure and teaching facilities.

School authorities and the District Assembly say maintaining discipline during the examination period is key to protecting the school’s image as it marks the milestone.
