Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) has held its maiden Career Fair to connect students and graduates with employers and strengthen collaboration between academia and industry.
The two-day event, held under the theme, “Bridging Education, Industry and Employment,” brought together students, graduates, employers, industry professionals, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders.
The Career Fair, the first since the institution was established in 1999 and converted into a technical university in April 2020, focused on career development, employability, entrepreneurship and industry collaboration.
Activities included panel discussions, industry exhibitions, networking sessions, CV reviews, career coaching and recruitment opportunities.
The event was organised in partnership with the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). Organisers said the initiative is intended to provide a platform for interaction between industry and academia while creating career opportunities for students and graduates.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of BTU, Professor Peter Osei Boamah, said the initiative aligns with the university’s mandate to produce graduates who have practical skills and are prepared for employment and entrepreneurship.
“The initiative reflects BTU’s commitment to graduating students who possess strong academic foundations, practical job skills and an entrepreneurial mindset,” he said.
Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Roland Atanga Ayoo said the municipality’s development depends on building a skilled, competent and innovative workforce.
“We therefore encourage stronger partnerships between educational institutions, industry, government and the private sector to ensure that graduates are well prepared for employment and entrepreneurship,” Mr. Ayoo said.
He expressed hope that the Career Fair would become an annual event to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and industry and improve employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people.
