Margaret Akagwire, a native of Navrongo, has filed her nomination to contest for the position of Upper East Regional Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking after filing her nomination, Mrs. Akagwire recounted her years of service to the party, saying her political journey began in 1992.
According to her, she first served as Polling Station Chairperson at Natugnia Primary A before becoming the Navrongo Constituency Women’s Organiser, a position she held for two terms.
Mrs. Akagwire said she joined active politics at a young age and has remained committed to the NPP through different periods of the party’s history.
She also highlighted her involvement in campaigns for the late Kofi Adda and John Achuliwor, as well as other NPP parliamentary and presidential candidates.
Mrs. Akagwire said her decision to contest for Regional Women’s Organiser is driven by her desire to empower women across the Upper East Region and increase their participation in the party.
She described women as an important part of the NPP’s grassroots structure and said providing them with the necessary support and opportunities would help strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mrs. Akagwire appealed to delegates to consider experience, competence, hard work and commitment when electing the party’s regional executives rather than age or financial influence.
“I am ready to work with every woman in the region to strengthen our structures and help the NPP return to power in 2028,” she said.
