Ghana has recorded an additional US$15 billion in foreign exchange inflows from gold, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, Dr. Forson said the increase reflects improved performance in the gold sector and has strengthened the country’s external position.
According to the Finance Minister, the additional inflows have boosted Ghana’s foreign exchange reserves, supported the stability of the cedi and enhanced the country’s international reserves.
He said the strong performance of the gold sector has helped cushion the economy against external shocks while creating additional fiscal space to support government development programmes.
Dr. Forson attributed the gains to the government’s efforts to strengthen the mining sector, improve export performance and implement sound fiscal and macroeconomic policies aimed at restoring economic confidence and promoting sustainable growth.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prudent economic management, increasing value addition in the mining sector and ensuring that Ghana’s natural resources contribute more to national development.
The Finance Minister made the announcement during the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, where he outlined the country’s economic performance and the government’s fiscal priorities for the remainder of the year.
