Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Roland Atanga Ayoo has urged students of Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) to make the most of the university’s maiden Career Fair by building professional networks and preparing for the demands of the job market.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Mr. Ayoo said the theme of the fair, “Bridging Education, Industry and Employment,” highlights the need for universities to align academic training with the practical skills and competencies required by industry.
“In today’s rapidly changing world, it is important that education equips students not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills, innovation, and the ability to meet the demands of the job market,” he said.
The MCE encouraged students to engage exhibitors and industry representatives, ask questions and build professional relationships that could support their future careers.
“Engage with the exhibitors, ask questions, build professional networks, and seek guidance that will help shape your future careers,” he said.
He reminded students that academic qualifications alone are no longer enough to secure employment, urging them to cultivate integrity, discipline, hard work and a commitment to lifelong learning.
“Remember that success is built on hard work, integrity, discipline, and a willingness to continue learning,” he said.
Mr. Ayoo commended the university’s management for organising the Career Fair, describing it as an initiative that prepares students not only for graduation but also for employment and career growth.
He also thanked participating organisations and employers for supporting the event through mentorship and recruitment opportunities, saying their involvement would contribute to the municipality’s human capital development.
During the ceremony, Bolgatanga Technical University presented Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited with a plaque in recognition of the company’s support for the maiden Career Fair and its partnership with the university.
Mr. Ayoo expressed hope that the Career Fair would become an annual event to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry while creating more opportunities for young people.
