Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga, has criticised the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, claiming it offers little hope for Ghanaians and lacks a clear strategy for sustainable economic development.
Speaking during a telephone interview on Bolga FM, Mr. Ayamga alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has failed to effectively mobilise domestic revenue to finance development projects.
According to him, the government has fallen short of its revenue targets and continues to rely heavily on borrowing to fund key initiatives.
He cited the government’s plan to secure a US$300 million loan to support the construction of new secondary schools, arguing that it reflects an overreliance on external financing rather than efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation.
Mr. Ayamga said the Mid-Year Budget Review does not provide practical solutions to the country’s economic challenges or inspire confidence among businesses, farmers and ordinary Ghanaians.
He called on the government to improve domestic revenue mobilisation, support productive sectors of the economy and implement policies that promote sustainable economic growth and job creation.
According to Mr. Ayamga, Ghanaians deserve an economic plan that delivers tangible results while reducing the country’s dependence on borrowing for national development.
