Incumbent Upper East Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salahu-Deen Musah, has explained that his decision to return to the Regional Youth Organiser race was motivated by the need to reorganise and strengthen the party’s Youth Wing before taking up another position.
Mr. Musah had initially picked nomination forms to contest the position of Regional Secretary and, after going through the vetting process and balloting, secured the number one position on the ballot.
However, his decision changed after the two other aspirants who had expressed interest in the Regional Youth Organiser position, Jonathan Abugre, popularly known as Contempt, and Samuel Akumbo Awintariba, known as Wakiki, were disqualified by the party’s vetting committee for exceeding the party’s constitutional age limit of 39 years for the position.
The party subsequently reopened nominations to allow qualified persons to contest the Youth Organiser position.
Mr. Musah then picked nomination forms to return to the race while simultaneously submitting a withdrawal letter from the Regional Secretary contest, in accordance with the party’s election guidelines. He was subsequently vetted virtually and emerged as the sole candidate after the vetting process.
Another aspirant, Bashiru Akparibo, who also picked forms to contest the Youth Organiser position, was later disqualified by the vetting committee on the grounds that he submitted the returned forms after the stipulated deadline.
In a message of appreciation following the process, Mr. Musah said extensive consultations with party stakeholders and elders influenced his decision to return to the Youth Wing.
According to him, the consultations made him realise that he needed to first address challenges confronting the Youth Wing before seeking a different position within the party.
“I came to the conclusion that I need to properly organise the Youth Wing before moving to a different position,” he said.
Mr. Musah said family members, friends and other stakeholders also supported and encouraged him to reconsider his decision and contest the Youth Organiser position.
He subsequently filed his nomination forms on the same day as his withdrawal from the Regional Secretary contest. With the completion of the vetting process, Mr. Musah is set to continue as the NPP Upper East Regional Youth Organiser for the 2026–2030 period.
He thanked party stakeholders, sympathisers, family and friends who supported his decision to return to the position, as well as the vetting committee for conducting the process.
Mr. Musah pledged to build a more united and stronger Youth Wing, saying his administration would seek to build on the work undertaken between 2022 and 2024.
He said the Youth Wing would be repositioned to achieve greater heights, while assuring party members of his commitment to strengthening its organisation and effectiveness in the region.
