President John Dramani Mahama is expected to inspect the proposed Bolgatanga Airport site at Suburugu and cut sod for the Tongo-Shega-Pelungu road during a two-day visit to the Upper East Region beginning Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026.
The visit, which ends Friday, Aug. 14, forms part of the President’s Resetting Ghana tour and will include inspections of ongoing projects, the commissioning of an E-Block and an engagement with residents.
Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, outlined the President’s itinerary in a telephone interview on Bolga FM.
According to him, President Mahama’s first activity will be an inspection of the proposed Bolgatanga Airport site at Suburugu.
He said the President is also expected to thank the Chief of Suburugu and the community for releasing a large tract of land for the proposed airport.
Mr. Salifu said the President and Upper East Regional Minister are working towards advancing the airport project and appealed to residents to exercise patience.
President Mahama is also expected to inspect work on the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Tumu road before travelling to Paga to commission an E-Block.
A free healthcare durbar at the Zuarungu Health Centre will also form part of activities scheduled for the first day.
On Friday, the President is expected to inspect the four-storey laboratory complex at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Navrongo.
He will then engage residents of the Upper East Region at Fountain Gate Chapel before cutting sod for the Tongo-Shega-Pelungu road.
The President’s two-day tour is expected to end with an inspection of the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road.
Mr. Salifu said the visit would provide the President with an opportunity to assess ongoing projects and engage residents on development issues affecting their communities.
