New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East Regional Secretary, Daniel Ayine, has called on the government to prioritise the completion of Agenda 111 hospital projects to improve healthcare delivery and create employment opportunities for trained health professionals.
Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, Mr Ayine said some trained nurses remain at home because they cannot secure postings due to the lack of available health facilities.
“Our brothers and sisters, they have completed nursing training school. They are sitting in their homes. They can’t be posted because the government said there is no place to post them,” he said.
He said completing the Agenda 111 hospitals would provide the facilities needed to employ trained health professionals while improving access to healthcare in communities.
Mr. Ayine said the government should prioritise completing the unfinished facilities to provide places for trained health workers to work.
He said the Upper East Region needs functional district hospitals and polyclinics under the Agenda 111 programme to reduce pressure on the Upper Regional Hospital, particularly for health conditions that can be managed at lower-level facilities.
According to him, residents should have access to appropriate healthcare within their districts instead of travelling to the regional referral hospital for conditions that could be treated at district-level facilities.
Mr. Ayine also questioned the government’s decision to invest in 24-hour economy model markets while some Agenda 111 health facilities remain incomplete.
He argued that completing the hospitals should receive greater attention because the facilities would improve healthcare delivery while creating opportunities for trained nurses and other health professionals who are currently without postings.
