Upper East GJA names three-member committee to vet entries for 5th Regional Awards

The Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has unveiled a three-member committee to independently vet entries submitted for the 5th Upper East Regional GJA Awards.

The committee is chaired by Dr. Benjamin Asunka Azembila, Head of the Marketing and Communication Department at Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU).

Other members are Dr. Samuel Adadi Akapule, a senior journalist and lecturer at BTU, and Fatima Sandra Anafu-Astanga, Senior Editor at the Ghana News Agency (GNA), who was sworn in via video call.

The committee is tasked with independently reviewing and vetting entries submitted for the awards to ensure fairness, credibility and adherence to journalistic standards.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Dr. Azembila assured journalists and other stakeholders that the members would uphold fairness, transparency and impartiality throughout the vetting process.

The 5th Upper East Regional GJA Awards are scheduled for October 2, 2026, under the theme, “Beyond the Headlines: The Media’s Role in Promoting WASH for Safe Motherhood and Quality Healthcare.”

MyTurn Constructions Limited and Lesken Enterprise Limited are headline sponsors of the awards, while Kacstones Records and Paga Youth Movement are main sponsors.
