Ollenu Ashittey’s 43rd-minute strike was all Kotoko needed to secure the narrow victory over the newly promoted Ghana Premier League side.

The ‘Stars of the East’ started the game on a very bright note and could have taken the lead in the first quarter of the game but Ernest Sowah denied them as he saved Noah Neequaye volley 15 minutes into the game.

Bolga All Stars continued to enjoy all the possession in the early spell of the match but failed to make their dominance count as they wasted yet another glorious chance in the 28th minute as a straightforward move down the left flank somehow flabbergasted the Porcupine Warriors defense led by Abeiku Annioson which gave Maxwell Frimpong a clear view of a goal, but the former Aduana Stars striker skied wide of the left post his effort.

When spectators at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium thought the game was heading to a pulsating goalless draw in the first half Asante Kotoko newly signed Ollenu Ashitey popped up to find the back of the net after his close-range shot cannoned off the inner frame of the post in the 43rdminute to end the first half 1-0.

Bolga All Stars coach, Nurudeen Ahmed made changes in the second half as his side fought back to get an equalizer but the premier league record holders held on to register a slim 1-0 win on the day.
